Process

When starting on any project I aim to take a Design Thinking approach, using the following steps Discover, Define, Ideate, Refine, Test & Analyze.
This allows me to optimize my work flow, get to the root of the task at hand & ultimately provide compelling & creative solutions
that benefits the end user. Not every project fit's seamlessly into this process, but by having
these as my guiding principles I know I have a framework where I can tackle any project in a logical & thought through manner.

Discover

The first step is always identifying the problem, asking driving questions and understanding the needs of who we’re designing for. It’s a time to frame the problem, conduct initial research and gather information.

Define

This is the stage to analyze observations, conduct any further relevant research, discover opportunities, summarize and synthesize and fully define the problem statement.

Ideate

This part of the process is geared towards idea generation. This is achieved by collaborative brainstorming, sketching & white boarding. Moving forward, I develop initial ideas and strategies, explore concepts and future possibilities in their simplest form.

Refine

During refinement I evaluate, prioritize, and choose what ideas and concepts to move forward with, I can then begin designing mock ups, prototypes and explore various iterations. Taking the time to step back and make refinements along the way is essential. I assess if the work is heading in the right direction: Am I working on the most effective solution to the problem and is the correct end user still at the heart of the process?

Test & Analyze

Testing is the time for validation and feedback. This is when the assumptions and theories get put to the test. At this stage I will have a logical and well thought through concept to test. This can be put in front of the intended target audience for observation. Through usability and study sessions data can be gathered, analyzed and then I can amend, adapt and improve the design based on these findings.
